According to the CDC, 443,000 deaths in the US are attributable to cigarette smoking, from lung cancer, other cancers, stroke, COPD, Ischemic heart disease. This works out to one in every 5 deaths in the US every year.

Quoting from the CDC: “More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.”
